Welcome to EQUESTORIUM™ (formerly trading as Just Saddles)
So, you ask...what does it mean?
Eques (Latin, plural of eques ‘horseman’) + Torium { thing (often a place) associated with a field} = EQUESTORIUM
We are a New Zealand owned and operated online Saddlery and leather goods store, formerly trading as Just Saddles. Because...we're not just saddles!
We are gradually extending our range of leather goods and equestrian products and hope you like what you find as you come on this journey of growth with us. Have you seen the leather bags we currently have in stock? Leather Bags & Handbags
We are proud to advise, we have recently become approved regional stockists for Hira Laboratories, primarily for their highly respected Equestrian Supplement products. "Hira Laboratories was established as a limited company in 1999 after many years of preparatory research. Its objective is to provide a range of herbal plant based products for people and animals organically grown and manufactured in New Zealand. The company has been involved in developing a medicinal plant nursery focusing on the more unusual ones like ashwagandha, as well as one additional very precious plant involved in addressing the insulin response."
We encourage you to check out our Equestrian Supplements page for further information and products.
EQUESTORIUM™ understands the secret to the success of any saddle is the fit. For both horse and rider.
It's our goal to educate everyday equestrians on the importance of understanding good saddle fit. Knowing how to measure their horse, select a suitable saddle and assess for correct fit, we firmly believe that with the right information and guidance for riders, horses can be comfortable under saddle, making riding more enjoyable for horse and rider. We've put together a time-test and proven method for helping every day equestrians measure their horse and assess saddle fit and identify common saddle fitting issues. Once learned, this is knowledge you will have for the rest of your equestrian endeavors, sharing the knowledge and making saddles more comfortable for horses everywhere!
We import saddles and other leather goods from a select group of overseas saddlemakers to offer you a variety of saddlery options, from economical entry-level to premium performance saddles, for whatever equestrian discipline you choose. All of our saddles are made from high quality, usually full-grain vegetable-tanned leathers or premium synthetic materials, such as biothane. We are proud to have Britannia Saddlery Ltd (Walsall, UK) and PODIUM - Endurance Saddles & Accessories amongst our esteemed Saddle Makers.
We carry a limited amount of stock on hand, and stock advertised on this site is not quantity controlled. We advise you to Contact Us if your are interested in any of our advertised products.
Horses, Saddle fit and Saddle trees:
A few things to consider...Does your horse have "white hairs" at or behind the wither or on its back? Does you horse have trouble moving forward into trot/canter? Does your horse buck or act up under saddle, pin its ears back, or try to nip when you are to saddling up? DOES YOUR SADDLE FIT YOUR HORSE?
What's a good analogy of Poor Saddle Fit? Imagine running with a stone in your shoe, or trying to walk or jog in shoes that are too tight or too big... it causes pain, poor performance and no matter how hard you try, you simply can't do your best.
Once you can identify fitting issues and correct the fit of your saddle, or work out which saddle tree will suit your horse, you can bring out the best in your equine partner and yourself, in any discipline; for competition or pleasure.
A good saddle, that fits well will allow your horse to lift and move the way that it should.
The key aspect for proper saddle fit should always be the best fit for the horse. Horses of different shapes require trees of different shapes and curvatures. You cannot successfully, or comfortably, especially from the horses perspective, use the same type of saddle tree shape in varying widths to fit every horse. For the rider’s weight to be carried and distributeed evenly without pressure points, the whole tree must be similar in both width and shape/curvature for it to be a good fit on the horse’s back. Horses come in a variety of builds and shapes. They require different tree curvatures not simply the same tree shape/curvature in different widths. Check our Saddle Tips for some helpful information.
Most of our saddles are made from scratch, based on your requirements entered when you place your order. It usually takes 8 - 10 weeks for production and dispatch (& up to 12 weeks during busy periods), unless otherwise stated. We recommend having another saddle to ride in while your saddle is being made.
Please be aware, prices are subject to change in response to currency exchange rates and costs associated with importing.
